Family-run in Conimicut

Rick and Cate Salk, still working the route

Rick spent 38 years with the postal service before he and his wife Cate started Take Me Out Pets in 2021. The job changed. The habits didn't: show up every day, rain or shine, and know every stop by name. Today the stops are living rooms and back yards across Warwick, and the ones waiting at the door have four legs, or wings.

Dogs, walks and overnights

Rick served in the U.S. Coast Guard and put in 38 years with the postal service. He has been a familiar face at the Warwick Animal Shelter since the 1990s, where he walked dogs and kept them active. He handles the dogs at Take Me Out Pets: the daily walks, the drop-ins, the overnights.

Cate Salk

Cats and quiet company

Cate is a retired massage therapist and a long-time cat rescue volunteer and foster. She brings the patient, quiet care that cats often need, and she is the cat expert of the pair. When a shy cat has to be coaxed out from under the bed, that is her visit.

From the mail route to the dog route

“We started Take Me Out Pets in Conimicut back in 2021, but our love for animals goes back much further. After spending 38 years with the postal service and serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Rick decided to bring that same sense of reliability and discipline to the pet care world. He runs the business with his wife, Cate, who has spent years volunteering and fostering for cat rescues. Together, we are a family-run team deeply rooted in the Warwick community, and we treat every pet like they are our own.”

That's the whole business: a family-run team, rooted in Warwick, that treats a key to your house as something earned. See what a visit looks like on the services page, or read what the households on the route wrote back in Letters from the route.
